Surrendering

Unfortunately, because of the high rate of rabbit abandonment and surrenders we see, we are unable to take in any rabbits and have to redirect all those who wish to surrender theirs to the Animal Care Center, the city's local animal shelter (there is one in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island).

As an alternative to the shelter, we highly encourage owners to choose to become fosters for their own rabbits. This entails the rabbit being spayed/neutered at the owner's cost and for the owner to agree to hold onto the rabbit until we can adopt it out. We then market the rabbit on our website and social media accounts just like our other adoptables. This option is much more humane and responsible than sending a rabbit to the shelter and has quicker turnaround time for getting the rabbit adopted to a new family. We are more than happy to speak with any owner about this program.
